How to Find Mommy Time

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Any new Mom can attest to the lack of “free time” in her daily life. Before kids- gym, spa days and grocery shopping were a breeze. Making time for yourself as a new Mom is not so easy. Motherhood is 24-7 and alone time is few and far between. Between taking care of a baby, grocery shopping, cleaning the house and cooking dinner there isn’t much time left in the day to indulge in alone time. Taking care of another human being 24-7 can be mentally exhausting. Experts say you need at least 15-20 minutes of alone time during the afternoon and evening to decompress. This is extremely important, however even just 5 minutes of deep breathing can bring some relaxation. Because as new mothers 30 min a day is not realistic…unless you have a nanny. 🙂

It’s very important to try and maintain some “me” time even if it’s just for a few minutes.
Below are some great ways for you to find mommy time. If you have any tips you can share, leave us a comment.
  • Wake up before the kids, have your coffee, catch up on social media, watch the news.

  • At nap time try and read a book or do a short workout

  • After their bedtime take this time and meditate or watch your favorite shows on DVR

  • Check local gyms to see if they have childcare. It may be hard at first to let someone watch your child but it will get easier.

  • Ask daddy for 30 minutes so you can shower in peace.

  • Ask a family member or friend to babysit for a few hours a week. Head to the grocery store by yourself,  you can cut the trip in half without the baby.

  •  take a walk and clear your mind. It’s amazing what the fresh air does for stress.

One of the best things is to walk with your baby- you both reap the benefits. Get your stroller out and make it a habit. It’s so good not only for you but for the baby as well. It’s a perfect time to work on ABC’s and talk about all the things you see while walking. Always remember to take care of yourself first. Moms need to have alone time. It makes you a better mom when you are strong and healthy.
