Let’s Get Cruising

Millions of people a year set out to take their vacation on a cruise because they offer everything for the whole family. From water slides, to fabulous shopping, top restaurants to my favorite, A CASINO.  I am super excited to take my first cruise in October with friends. Our destinations- Bahamas, St Thomas and St Maarten. So of course, I needed to find out a few tips and tricks, places to visit and what I will need to pack on our new adventure. Motion sickness here I come.

Tips and Tricks

1. Turn your cell phone on airplane mode when you first arrive to board the ship. This will cut down on roaming charges and save you a lot of money.
2. Use the ships Wi-Fi while in port. This will give you increased internet speed instead of when you are at sea and trying to connect to satellites.
3. Never use the ships ATM. The fees will be massive. I have always heard to head straight to the casino on board and put in your money in a machine then cash out. Take your ticket to the cashier.
4. Do your online check-in the night before to avoid long delays.
5. Never walk off the ship at port and get your first taxi. They take advantage and charge much higher prices. Walk into town and pick up a cab with lower rates. Usually it is just a short walk from the ship.
6. Always take comfy shoes because you will be walking a lot. Nothing can spoil your fun worse than blisters or sore feet. Insoles work great too.
7. I like to pack ziplock bags when I travel in case I get stuck in rain or venture out to the beach. This will protect your money, phone or snacks you want to take along on your day trip.
8. Always tip well. Especially your porters when you embark. They work separate from the cruise ship and they will take good care of your luggage so don’t skimp. I like to tip everyone so I know they will take good care of me and I have worked tip jobs and it is not fun.
9. Always invest in cruise insurance. Hey, if you are like me, accidents tend to happen a lot so I am always prepared.
10. Make sure you let your bank or credit card company know you are traveling. I have a very protective bank and I have been in airports before with no cash and my bank is closed so I can’t reach them to alert them of my travel. Not fun at all.
11. Invest in a power strip with USB so you can charge your phone and laptop.   [thirstylink ids=”4339″]Amazon Power Strip with USB[/thirstylink]

12. Instead of searching everyday for the ships planner take a quick photo on your phone. This will save you so much time so you are not having to keep going back and checking the schedule.

What to pack on your trip

 1. 2-3 swimsuits
 2. Camera
 3. Batteries
4. Charger
5. Sunscreen
6. Beach towel
7. Painkiller, motion sickness patches, and Tums. I also like to take a mini first aid kit. I tend to get injured a lot.
8. Water bottle with a lid. Don’t spend your money on paying for water when you can use the ships water fountains. Yes they are safe
9. Bug spray. Try an organic spray from Amazon. [thirstylink ids=”4366″]Organic Bug Spray[/thirstylink]
10. mini flashlight. These are great to take along [thirstylink ids=”4367″]FlashPro Mini 4 Pack Flashlights LED[/thirstylink]
11. Binoculars
12. Prescription medicine and medical records
13. Sunglasses
14. Travel toiletries
15. Casual clothing
16. Sandals
17. 2 pair of dressy heels
18. Cocktail dress
19. Sneakers

20. A Sound Machine is my favorite thing to take on a trip or download a White noise app on your cell phone. I have a feeling that the walls are paper thin and I tend to be a super lite sleeper too. This app offers just about any sound you want so you have a better night sleep.

Always go out in a group of people or with another person. You hear horror stories of people being robbed or kidnapped so just don’t take the chance. I like to ask the staff places to stay away from because they are pretty familiar with the areas. Get the phone number of the ship or a concierge just in case of an emergency. Better to be safe than sorry.

Let us know if you have taken a cruise and any tips you would like to share in comments. Have a wonderful summer.
