My Experience with an Infrared Sauna

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

So the latest craze in the healthcare and beauty industry is the Infrared Sauna. What exactly is an infrared sauna you ask and why should you spend your money to try it out? Well me being me, I had to research it and find out if it was worth the dough.

When you think of a traditional sauna, you probably think sweat. I remember as a child my dad had one of those 1970s sauna you get in and the door closes with your head sticking out. I lived in it as a youth and teen. The infrared sauna is similar in that you sweat, sweat and then you sweat some more but they don’t feel half as hot or wet as a traditional sauna.

So what’s the difference between the traditional sauna you use when you go to the gym or hotel?

I’m sure many of you have tried those saunas at the gym or hotel. Well traditional saunas just heat the air. A infrared sauna raises your core body temperature with heat and light. The infrared light waves create heat within our bodies causing our body temps to rise so the air around you doesn’t get hot. This makes an infrared sauna safe even to have in our homes.

What kind of benefit does a infrared sauna provide?

There are so many benefits to using infrared saunas. Below are a few that I found from my research and my own visit to a sauna.

Improves your mood
Helps with depression
Boots your immune system
Detoxification for your body
Helps with Weight loss
Decreases Muscle and joint pain
Improves heart health
Anti aging benefits
Helps decrease cellulite
Increases circulation
Exercise recovery
Lowered inflammation in the body
Lowers blood pressure
Increases flexibility

So what was my experience like?

My first experience with an infrared sauna was so great I decided to buy my own at home version. What I loved about the experience is sitting in the sauna for 20 minutes was no big deal. Not like traditional saunas where you are ready to get out after 10 minutes because the air can be a little suffocating for some people. I found my joint pain improved, my skin had a nice glow to it as soon as I got out, my breathing improved,  I felt more alert and my mood was noticeably better. I definitely will make an infrared sauna a part of my weekly routine. I ordered one on eBay and I can’t wait to continue to sweat away the bad stuff from my body. Toxins begone

Are all infrared saunas the same?

You have two different infrared sauna choices. Far light omitting and near light omitting are your options. But how do I know which is right for me?
Far light uses black carbon or metallic elements for heating that mostly emit light but they do offer some light therapy. Near infrared lamp saunas use both heat and light therapy and can penetrate the body up to 9 inches which promotes cell regeneration. They also allow the air to stay cooler while still heating the body but don’t make the mistake of thinking you won’t sweat. Sweating is part of the detox process. This is the sauna a lot of people prefer because they seem to provide more health benefits to the body and skin.

How long of a treatment will I need?

Most sessions last from 15 to 20 minutes. Infrared sessions are safe year round and daily, but listen to your own body and if you are dizzy, I would suggest skipping that day. You can start out for 10 minutes and work your way up to longer if necessary. I know a lot of people that do 45 minutes a day so it really is your choice on what you think your body can handle. Enjoy and let us know your experience with Infrared Sauna Sessions.
