What Constitutes Great Style?

I thought about this question for a while and I decided it is hard to pinpoint just one thing that makes a person stylish, so I had to really think about what brings my attention to someone’s overall look. Is it mixing high end labels with low end labels? Is it someone who takes a chance on a look that maybe others would not be so keen on? That’s the thing about style- not everyone can define it. Style is really not something you can buy. Sure you can spend thousands of dollars a year on name brand items but great style is more than high end designers.

People with great style always look a little less done than everyone else and they understand that a label is not necessarily cooler. They stay true to their personality and don’t get caught up in the latest hype. Those with great style also understand what works best with this body.

For me personally I try to cultivate my wardrobe with items I know work for my body. I don’t really try too hard and I always stick to basic colors and items. It may be boring to some people but I find I can mix and match easier if I stick to a neutral color scheme. From time to time I’ll get some nerve and throw in something flashy.

So who are great style Influencers?

Olivia Culpo is one of those women who always looks so put together and classy. She is not really a edgy dresser but she does take chances from time to time including elegance and daring fishnet tights together. Whatever she pulls together is not trashy though and her hair and makeup always seem to be on point and completely appropriate for her outfits. It always seems to work. She is becoming a top style Influencer.

Halle Berry is a celebrity that really knows and understands her body and what looks good on her. In my opinion, when you look like this, EVERYTHING looks good on you. I love the fact too that she takes chances with color and cuts. Every outfit she wears appears to be custom made for her body so my guess is she has a great tailor. Her style has evolved so much from when she first started. Her style is much more elegant than it was years ago.

Blake Lively is another one of my favs because she always looks like she came out of a 50’s movie. Think Grace Kelly. She likes to take chances on bright colors, old Hollywood red carpet looks and bohemian style which I adore. You will rarely see her not looking radiant. To me she is the closest in Hollywood today whose style takes you back to the good old days in Hollywood when women always looked put together.

Another style icon that really stands out to me is Jennifer Lopez. What I love most about JLo is the chances she takes. She will still rock a jumpsuit, and then show up in a metallic mini the next day. Can we ever forget the deep plunge of the green Versace dress she wore to the Grammy Awards? I think not. That look I would say is arguably one of the most daring, and iconic dresses I have seen at an awards show. I can still remember the look on Fred Durst face and other rock stars when they saw her walk the red carpet with Puff Daddy. This was for sure her shining moment that made designers stand up and say, “Where has she been all my life?”

And one of my all time favorite style influencers is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. She exudes bohemian chic mixed with glamour and edgy street style. I feel like I model her look most of all the ladies listed. I love the fact that she includes a simple white tee with a lot of her pieces. From black blazers and leather pants to glamorous gowns, she rarely disappoints. She always seems so effortless when she pulls together an ensemble.

Always pick your style based on what you love and not by what the latest trend is. Another great tip is keep classic pieces for many years to come. They will eventually come back into style. Leave us some comments and let us know if you have style influencers you love as well.
