The Perfect Brow? Microblading 101

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

So what is Microblading you ask? It is a accurate, semi-permanent form of cosmetic tattooing that normally last up to 3 years depending on the person. Men and women have it done if they have gaps in their eyebrows or sparsely filled brows. It is a great way to create the illusion of more hair on your eyebrows. If you find the right artist, you won’t need to worry about having sharpie looking eyebrows.

What is the procedure like?

The procedure is done with a hand tool similar to the exacto knives which makes hair like scrapes and inserts pigment into the brows, which is called micropigmentation. I had recently had permanent cosmetics completed on my brows a few years ago but really didn’t like the look. I found it to be too boxy looking myself,  so I am happy to have found Microblading because it gives a more natural look.

What is the cost?

Microblading can cost between $300-$1500 or more depending on the location you have it done at and if the technician is certified by a board. But think about the time and amount of money you will save on buying eyebrow products, plus waking up to perfect brows is worth the money spent.

What is the healing time?

Get prepared for the first two weeks because your brows will go through some changes to reach the complete healing process and you will need to do a follow up in 6-8 weeks. Since your skin is being cut, be ready for some scabbing to take place. Honestly, it is not that bad if you follow your technicians aftercare process. Aquaphor will become your new best friend. If you read my blogs, it should be your best friend anyway. I personally cannot live without it. Please don’t pick your Scabs and be sure to not use makeup or get them wet at first. If you need to cleanse them, I like to use Cetaphil on a Q-tip and clean them, then  immediately apply  aquaphor right after.

It’s important the first few days you sleep on your back or if you are a side sleeper like me, try to keep your brows off the pillow.

Above is the pre-draw and the final results right after the visit. In a few weeks the eyebrows will be lighter after the scabbing heals. The pre-draw is when the technician draws up the final look you are going for. And no it doesn’t hurt. A good artist will numb you up well and it is actually a comfortable process you could fall asleep to. So much better than doing the permanent cosmetic tattoos which I found much more painful.
