Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe straddles Nevada and California and is home to dozens of ski resorts. This is the winter getaway for most Californians and Nevadans but people from all over the world come for relaxation and great slopes. North Tahoe is a great find you won’t want to miss. The mountain scene is incredible during any time of the year, but wintertime is breathtaking. And the sparkling blue waters are gorgeous. This is a one of a kind experience. If you are looking for a place to stay, check out Tahoe Luxury Properties which has been family owned since 1994 and offers a 5-star resort experience.

Whistler, BC, Canada

Located just two hours north of Vancouver, Whistler is a favorite among skiers and winter lovers with one of the best ski resorts in Canada. It has epic skiing and snowboarding, championship golf courses, great shopping, hiking and one of the best mountain bike parks in the world. Whatever you are looking for, Whistler has it. This should be on everyone’s bucket list for travel.

Stowe, Vermont

Stowe is probably one of those New England towns you have never heard of but you really should do some research on it. It offers world class luxury, 39 miles of skiing and is a short trip from Boston. Mt. Mansfield has snowboarding, skiing and is known as one of North America’s cross country skiing destinations with more than 3000 acres of conserved land. Twilight dog sledding tours by Peace Pups is something on my bucket list. Can you imagine being pulled at twilight by a team of huskies? Perfection!!!!!!

Portland, Maine

Portland, Maine is most notably known for being a lobster lover’s paradise but it offers so much more. It has become popular recently for it cosmopolitan movement offering a great bar scene, countless breweries and to die for restaurants. All winter long the downtown area is lit up with a beautiful display of lights brought together by a partnership with Portland downtown and artist Pandora LaCasse. If you miss them at Christmas time, don’t worry, they run from November until March. Looking for a place to rest your head, check out the Portland Harbor Hotel.

The Berkshire’s Massachusetts

Snow bunnies, we found the place for you. The Berkshires are a haven for winter sports devotees. If you like thrilling, downhill runs go check out Jiminy Peak or Catamount. Snowshoes are a great way to see the landscapes, then take off the chill with the casual dining restaurants around town that offer a vast menu selection. If you like New England Clam, go check out Summer Shack. Their shellfish and oyster shucker have won numerous competitions.

If you are looking for culture activities like music, dance or theater, The Berkshires’ has that as well. Go check out St James Place which offers rich chamber music or take in dance at Jacob’s Pillow Dance.

Mammoth Lakes, California

Mammoth Lakes, California, is known to many as the winter getaway for most Californians and Nevadans. It a wonderful place for whipping out the skis or snowboards. During the winter months, Mother Nature drops on average more than 30 feet of perfect snow.  Check out the slopes nearby at June Mountain, its super relaxed and a good time for all.  Looking for a place to stay, check out The Village Lodge. https://www.thevillagelodgemammoth.com/

Sitka, Alaska

Sitka is located on Baranof Island on the southeast part of Alaska. There is such an authenticity to this small town. Your first stop should be to Fortress of the Bear, which is kind of a wildlife preserve that works to release injured bears back into the wild. If bears scare you then you could go check out Alaska Raptor Center which does the same thingm but with bald eagles and similar animals. Sitka has a colorful past that blends Russian history and Tlingit culture. The US purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867 and held the transfer ceremony in Sitka, which became their first capital city. You can only access Sitka by air or sea so if you want a car, you will need to rent one.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

If you love the outdoors and nature then Jackson Hole, Wyoming is the place for you. Just nearby are Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks, which boast vast landscapes, elk and moose just strolling around. Winter is a magical time in Jackson Hole with the peaks covered with fresh powder and glowing lakes all around. You will want to do the  snowmobile tours to see the beauty Jackson Hole has to offer. The wildlife is incredible in Jackson Hole; from deer, to elk, a plethora of birds, geese and swans, there is a vast display of wildlife to view. The valley itself is around 48 miles long and around 8 miles wide. Skiing of course is the major winter pastime, so if you are looking for a good resort, go check out the Snow King Mountain resort.

Lake McDonald, Montana

Lake McDonald is the largest lake in Glacier National Park. It is around 10 miles long and close to 500 feet deep. The lake is a result from glacial carving and the valleys nearby showcase some beautiful waterfalls. The crystal clear water houses these gorgeous colored pebbles throughout. It looks like someone painted them and dropped them in the lake. Schedule your vacation during the cold season and try out snowboarding or take a long boat ride to see its natural beauty. It won’t disappoint. Montana has always been one of my favorite states to visit in the US. The wildlife is plentiful and it looks like something straight out of a western. I would love someday to own a cabin and retire in peace.
