Baby Shower Baby…

A baby shower is what all new and first time Mom’s dream of, right? Well who says it has to be just for the new Mom?! Why not have a “Daddy baby shower”.This trend is making its way across the country. How do I know? Well, my baby shower wasn’t a traditional one. I was too far along to travel and it was being held in another state by my Mother in law. I really wanted to be there and since I couldn’t the next best thing was my Hubby. Will did not mind “sitting in” for me, actually he seemed very comfortable doing so.

I have a large family and they wanted to have a shower for us as well, but I declined. One was sufficient and besides I want to do a meet and great when Olive James is a year old. I never want people to feel obligated to buy gifts. So when I found out Will was going to be the one in the spotlight for the shower I was relieved. After all, I was busy getting everything ready for the baby and my time was dedicated to me, the gym and trying to sleep and rest. Both of the latter hardly ever happened.

Why do I think this Daddy baby shower craze is such a great idea?

1.Mommy doesn’t have to be stressed that she can’t fit into anything cute enough to wear to her shower.
2. Mommy can focus all her energy on her growing baby.
3. Mommy doesn’t have to act surprised when she gets a gift that is not to her liking. 😉
4. Mommy can take the day and get a massage, a pedicure or just relax with a good book.
5. Mommy can just let go of the control strings and let someone else take the reins.

The shower was fit for a lil lady! Lil Lady is the moniker we referred to Olive James before she was born. The decor was so fitting for Daddy. It was held outside on a river, full barbecue, ball jars filled with rubber duckies, pink bandanas, mini cowboy boots. Beautiful flowers and a pink raspberry sponge cake. I was there via Facetime and was able to witness all our lovely family and friends gather around to celebrate the birth of our daughter Olive James. I don’t think I would change a thing. I think everyone should have a Daddy shower. Its a great way to get the Daddy’s involved and feel like they are just as special as the Mom’s. And you know what, they really are.
