Getaway To Savannah

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

People come  to Savannah from all over the country and fall in love. One of my best friends Lesley and I just returned from a trip and it is one of those places you can’t help but fall in love with. Think Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and you will know what I mean if you have read the book. If not go pick it up NOW.

First of all, it’s gorgeous and creepy at the same time, which pretty much sums up things I enjoy in life. There are veils of Spanish moss hanging everywhere you look. There are gorgeous brick roads and sidewalks, fabulous mansions and pretty much everything you need right downtown. We ended up staying in the Historic District which was located close to everything. Check out a few of the things we did on our quick 4 day trip.

History of Savannah

Savannah was founded in 1733 and is associated with the Civil War, the Underground Railroad and slavery but that is in the past and shouldn’t be all it is known for. It is the oldest city in Georgia and people call it the Hostess City. From the experience we had, it is a very welcoming and kind city.

Places to Check Out

Leopold’s ice cream is a must stop. It is well known in Savannah and a must stop on your visit.

Wet Willies is a place to check out for their adult slushies. They have many options to chose from.

Mata Hari is a speakeasy that you need a key to get into. We didn’t get to go because it was closed at the time but locals say it is a must experience. You learn how to drink absinthe the traditional way with melting a sugar cube into the liquor and diluting it with water.

Take a stroll down Jones Street. It was voted one of the most beautiful streets in a America. It was just gorgeous.

Take a drive to Wormsloe Plantation which is an area covered by trees with hanging Spanish Moss. Just a unique experience.

The city contains around 20 city squares so take the time to check out as many as possible. Definitely check out Chippewa square where Forest Gump and the bench scene was filmed.

Where WE Laid our HEADS

The Grant by Lucky Savannah Rental

VRBO should be your best friend. Believe me, I cannot live without my app. I lived in hotels for years and worked in the business for many years, so I tend to now want to stay in apartments or condos. The Grant is a happy medium. You get to experience the comforts of home with the convenience of a hotel. It is located right near the intersection of Bull and Broughton Streets so you are super close to everything in the  Historic District.

GHOST TOUR

You can’t go to Savannah and not take a ghost tour. Savannah citizens love their ghost stories and besides New Orleans, I think it is one of the creepiest places I have traveled to. Not creepy in a bad way but a fun scary. Lesley and I took a great tour in a hearse. What better way to see the haunted locations.

Lesley and I chose to do the World Famous Hearse Ghost Tour because it was really cold during the trip. It was founded in 2002 and has been voted the #1 Ghost Tour in the U.S. Our driver Bruce was wonderful, informative and super funny.

Reservations by phone only. Private tours available. The tour lasts from 75-90 minutes. Times available: 6pm, 8pm and 10:00pm

Open 7 days a week. Each hearse holds 8 bodies (Dead or Alive)

Tybee Island

Often called “Savannah’s Beach,” Tybee Island is super close to downtown Savannah. It took us like 15 minutes to be at the beach from where we stayed. Check out the Crab Shack for lunch or dinner. It is a super cool place to get some of the best seafood around. Don’t be alarmed when you pull up. It really looks like a shack but it is famous for its food. The atmosphere is really neat and you can feed live alligators during the spring and summer season. We found out they don’t eat during the winter.

WE hope you enjoyed our blog on the beautiful city of Savannah. Leave our readers comments if you have any places they should visit. XOXO
