Benefits of Owning a Pet

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

In today’s world, stress is an everyday occurrence. We all know how hard it is to deal with stress, but did you know that pets can increase your positive emotions and reduce anxiety? Studies show that by owning a pet, your blood pressure can go down, your heart rate lowers and they can influence your mental health. In fact, animals have been shown to provide an external focus of attention that can lower our cardiovascular response to stress. Studies have shown that for some individuals, pets can decrease blood pressure, lower your heart rate and improve your mental health. Service dogs can help veterans with PTSD by lowering their cortisol levels, and also help kids with autism and those suffering from depression. Think about when you get home from work and your dog is there waiting at the door with his tail wagging. He is just happy to see you and that happiness can be contagious after a bad day.

But most of all, pets bring such joy to our lives. My life would not be complete without the love of my animals. A pet loves you unconditionally and for who you are. They don’t care about what you are wearing, how much money you make or what your job is. They just want love.
