Emergency Preparedness 101

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Todays times are scary. Let’s face it, we never know what is around the corner. My philosophy in life is be proactive and not reactive. We need to be prepared for anything in this world. I wanted to create a survival guide which includes hacks we can use everyday. From security, self defense, everyday hacks, to survival tips, we hope you find this resource useful.

During a natural disaster or attack, people start buying up supplies and stock piling so when you go to the store, you will probably find empty shelves. The list below are items that go missing so pick them up when you go to the store the next time.

  • Generators, Firewood, Can Openers, eating utensils, sugar, brown rise, honey, beans, vegetable oil, lighter fluid, aluminum foil, drinking water, propane cylinders, vitamins, shampoo, soap, body wash, zip ties, thermal underwear, gasoline containers, garbage bags, garden seeds, fruit seeds, first aid kits, baking soda, batteries, batteries and more batteries.
    Everyday Hacks
  • Lighting candles by using a spaghetti noodle. It burns long enough to light multiple candles.
  • When the electricity goes out, you will want to keep your body warm. Hand warmers can be used on your body to keep the body temperature up
  • Designate a room for the family to stay in. Cover up windows and vents and doors with blankets if the electricity goes out in the wintertime.
  • Items you should keep in your vehicle at all times:

  • Warm or reflective blanket
  • Water supply
  • Keep a ziplock bag of cash, at least $100 in $20s, $10s and $5s.
  • Cat litter in case you get stuck on an icy road

  • Extra clothes
  • Fire starting resources: lighters, matches etc
  • First aid kit

  • A Reddit orange flag to tie to your car’s antenna
  • Flares
  • Flashlight
  • Food supplies
  • GPS device
  • Knife
  • Jumper cables
  • Battery charger
  • Parachord
  • Personal hygiene kit
  • Prescription medication
  • Shovel
  • Bear spray for protection

Be Prepared To Shelter In Place During an Emergency

If you have a basement, that is where you will want to be if a tornado hits.

Stock Up On Emergency Food such as freeze dried meals

Buy up emergency radios so you can keep up with weather alerts and other emergency situations. I like the battery or crank radios. See this one I bought for myself:

Potassium Iodide pills in case of a nuclear attack. IOSAT is the only brand I buy because it is approved to protect the thyroid gland.

Protecting Your Lungs From Potential Nuclear Fallout. Investing in a Israeli gas mask

Another option, would be to use a wet towel and also protective gloves

Bleach is really important because it serves many important functions such as sterilizing your tools and even your skin

To Protect Yourself and your family, it might be a good idea to take self defense classes. Being from Kentucky, we own guns, stun guns and baseball bats, LOL.
